Online Consultations for your Clients
As a hairdresser, at this moment in time, the best thing you can do for your clients is give them advice from afar. Staying in touch is good for both you and the client mentally and though your client may not be getting her monthly cut and colour, there's still plenty they can be doing in their own home for their hair and your business.

Online Consultations

Get in touch with your customers! Whether this be via WhatsApp Facebook Messenger Email A FaceTime call A standard phone call or text message Just ask how they are, what they've been up to and most importantly HOW IS THEIR HAIR? Are they having any problems? What have they been using and why? If you think an online form would help you to gather this information, you can use something like this: Click here to view this EXAMPLE form as an interactive Google Form... With questions such as: What type of hair do you have? How often do you style your hair with heat? How often do you lighten/colour your hair? How dry is your hair on a scale of 1 to 10? How damaged is your hair on a scale of 1 to 10? How sensitive is your scale on a scale of 1 to 10? Do you have any toning requirements? Yes/No - Please describe Do you suffer from any skin/scalp complaints? Yes/No - Please describe Do you like to use eco-friendly, naturally derived or vegan products? Is your hair thinning or does it look thin? How long do you have to spend on your hair? Are you allergic to anything? Yes/No - Please describe Any other hair requirements we need to know about? Please describe If you have a Gmail account, you can even set this up as a Google Form completely free! (It's also free to set up a Gmail account for yourself if you don't already have one.) It's quite easy to do and there is a helpful video at the bottom of this page if you want to learn how to get started. If you would like a copy of the example Hair Care Consultation Form we have made, you can copy it to your own Gmail/Google Forms account here (you will need to be logged into your gmail account for this to work)... Once you've created your own copy, you will be able to edit it as you like. You will want to start with removing the 'EXAMPLE FORM' box at the bottom. Once you have your own Google Form, you can use the SEND button in the top right of the form to send to your customers by email or just copy and paste the Link (little chain icon) into a WhatsApp or Facebook message. You can also click on the Responses button to see what answers your customers have sent to you. Alternatively, just use the questions from the form above, or create questions of your own as talking points and carry out your own consultation either during a phone call or message conversation. Keep in mind, it's completely up to you whether you want to turn this into a retailing opportunity. It's perfectly fine if you just want to use something like this to touch base with your clients. You can simply advise them WHAT KIND of products to use or better at-home hair habits to adopt rather than purchasing anything specific. Alternatively, as Syd Hayes mentioned in his interview with Hairdressers' Journal, you can buy the products you want to prescribe to your clients and they can then pick them up during their once-a-day walk (as I assume your clients are local to you as his are). You can just leave them in a safe and previously disclosed place. He also suggests that you have an online appointment with them post consultation so you can help them apply the product and get the most out of it, again, via online channels such as a FaceTime call. Although this is a way to make retail sales, I wouldn't say that making money is the main benefit for carrying out online consultations. Essentially, it's a way to stay in touch with your clients and offering them a service that makes them feel great about themselves and you in these strange times. AND it will help you start laying the ground work for when you are able to start working again and you are able to welcome back all of your clients.
